This drop in in air filter from K&N is designed to last the lifetime of your car.
It will never need replacing, unlike the standard air intake filters, and will only need washing and re-oiling (every 50'000miles maximum). For what is roughly double the price of a normal Air filter you can get better air flow and a reusable filter.
The other upside to this is that if your unlucky enough to overfill your oil (on early cars) it would have been blown up in to your intake and contaminate your air filter with oil, Possibly leading to some of the following symptoms:

Racing Beat offers their extremely popular REVi Intake System for all RX-8 applications. Designed to offer performance improvements without sacrificing drivability, the Racing Beat intake system is the final result of hundreds of hours of dyno test sessions and on-road testing.
The major components of the REVi Intake System include: an OEM style air box assembly, custom-designed K&N air filter unit, aluminum mass air flow sensor tube, and a tuned-length air inlet horn. Unlike many of the aftermarket intake systems on the market, the Racing Beat intake system retains one of the important mesh screens to aid with the even distribution of airflow across the mass air sensor. The inclusion of this screen minimizes the possibility of “rough idle” issues that may occur if both stock screens are eliminated.
Working with the design team at K&N Engineering, a high capacity air filter was developed that allowed us to position a tuned-length intake horn inside the filter body. This filter design allowed us to fine-tune the length of the air horn to maximize the performance potential. We have noted that many aftermarket intake systems for the RX-8 incorporate a large air filter, which is then connected to the intake manifold with a length of plastic or metal tubing. In many cases, the size of the filter that has been selected will dictate the length of tubing required, severely limiting the critical tuning importance of the air intake tube!

The turbo kit is set to run 5 psi out of the box. This is a safe boost level. With other fuel system support and engine modification, the turbo is good to run up to 20 psi with a boost controller. The E-manage comes pre-programmed. GReddy claims 60 rear wheel HP gain from the turbo kit out of the box. 60 rear wheel horsepower was acheived on Greddy's test cars. The actual horsepower will vary from car to car. Further tuning of the E-Manage Ultimate with the E-manage laptop software may result in improved HP gain.
Essex Rotary recommend this kit is professionally installed and tunes but to the nature of converting an N/A RX-8 to Turbo. some applications may require revision of the original installation instructions.

Boost controlled variable injection
This kit uses manifold boost pressure to determine when and how much fluid to inject. Proportionally injecting according to boost pressure gives the most accurate delivery of water-methanol and allows the most cooling and performance improvement over the widest range. More power and driveability is the result! It can be used on any forced induction engine.
The most suitable are the centrifugal supercharged and turbocharged engines, as they build boost is a more progressive manner concerning water-methanol injection. The positive displacement blower engines will work, but it might take more work to dial in the delivery. New: You can switch to a 0-5 Volt output signal from the Mass Air for injection controlling.

HKS Super Hybrid Filters are direct replacement panel filters designed to fit into the standard factory air box. Using a 3 layer dry filter, the super hybrid filter separates and catches dust particles within the air and optimises air flow direction through the filter.
The new 3 layer filter system catches larger dust particles with the first layer and smaller particles are filtered out by the 2nd polyurethane layer. This has allowed increased filter life over previous models. Improvements were also made to the way the layers are attached to each other allowing for improved air flow.
The frame has been strengthened so as to not distort even in high power applications. The design of the top edge of the frame has been further improved to increase air flow into the filter and by using a "separate shield frame" structure, the frame lip seals tightly against the air box without the need for a separate rubber ring improving the products environmental impact. The two part filter frame structure allows simple replacement of the filter element when it is time to replace the filter. Reusable filters which can be cleaned cannot always restore 100% of its air flow properties whereas new replacement elements can. Water/methanol injection for gas engines is a proven means for effectively reducing engine inlet air temperatures and suppressing harmful detonation on forced induction and high compression naturally aspirated (NA) race engines. This allows racers to reliably increase boost and advance ignition timing—without using high-octane racing fuel—for power gains of up to 20%. AEM’s Water/Methanol Injection Systems utilize the most robust hardware combined with more advanced features than any other comparably priced water/methanol system.
The on-demand progressive controller in AEM’s Boost Dependent PN30-3302 tank-less Water/Methanol Injection kit bases injection flow on manifold pressure using an on-board MAP sensor (up to 35 PSI of boost) to ensure the proper amount of water/methanol injection at all points along an engine’s power curve.
AEM’s engineers spent extensive time developing the controller’s flow control strategy for a more linear flow output delivery. This means that the flow delivery better matches an engine’s need for water/methanol injection, which further optimizes charge air cooling and detonation control.
The new controller design features large, turn-resistant knobs and larger numbering to easily set accurate start and full activation points, with covered status LED and test buttons for added splash resistance. A plug is integrated into the controller housing for mating to the redesigned wiring harness’s positive-lock connector. The Boost Dependent controller housing has a molded-in, barbed nipple to accept a boost hose and a wiring legend on the back, integrated fuse and molded mounting tabs.
AEM’s Boost Dependent Water/Methanol Injection kit’s wiring harness is terminated with a positive-lock connector on one end and has color-coded wires to ease installation. Both the power and ground wires for the pump are included in the harness which simplifies the wiring process and eliminates any chance of the pump accidentally activating from a short in the system. An additional wire is included for adding an optional on/off solenoid to stop fluid flow when the system is inactive.

Important Safety Notice Regarding Methanol
AEM strongly recommends that users never exceed a 50% methanol concentration when using any AEM Water Methanol system or component.
All AEM Water/Methanol injection systems and components (pump, lines, fittings, filter, flow sensor, tank, and nozzles) are 100% chemically compatible with methanol. However, for safety reasons we strongly recommend that users never use more than a 50% methanol concentration in our systems.
Methanol is a toxic and highly flammable chemical. 100% Methanol ignites easily and burns vigorously with an almost undetectable flame. Methanol can be absorbed through the skin and even small amounts can cause blindness or even death. Using this fluid at high pressures, without dilution, in an under-hood environment with nylon lines and push-to-connect fittings is very unsafe. The performance advantages of using greater than 50% methanol concentrations are small, if they exist at all. However, the safety issues are very real and far outweigh any perceived benefit of running high concentrations of methanol.

AEM’s Water/Methanol Injection Filter can filter particulates as small as 40 microns. It protects the working parts of the water/methanol system and the engine from particulates in the water/methanol mixture when installed in-line before the water/methanol pump, and can be used on virtually any water/methanol injection system using ¼” OD tubing.
Why An Inline Filter Is A Good Idea.
If you are using a Water/Methanol Injection System it may greatly increase pump life to use a water/methanol filter. The AEM Water/Methanol Injection Filter prevents foreign particles as small as 40 microns from clogging or damaging pumps, injection nozzles check valves or flow sensors. The AEM Water/Methanol Injection Filter uses fittings for use with 1/4" OD nylon tubing, so it fits most Water/Methanol injection kits on the market today!
