The Racing Beat RX-8 Race Exhaust System V2 with 3″ bore and extended tip is a lightweight exhaust system that is intended for race applications. Originally designed to meet the demands of RX-8 autocross/circuit racers, this system is significantly lighter than the stock system and has been designed to meet a race track-imposed sound limit. As compared with our original RX-8 Race exhaust system, the V2 version features an extended tip section which extends rearward through a single bumper opening.

System Weight
The Racing Beat Race Exhaust System has been designed to offer a significant weight reduction over the stock RX-8 system, compare the following:

Stock system + connecting-pipe = 39 lbs
Racing Beat Race Muffler (21 lbs) + Connecting-pipe (8 lbs) = 29 lbs
This is a 25% reduction in weight over the stock system!

All components are handcrafted using 304-stainless steel materials for excellent durability and strength. As a weight saving measure, we decided to eliminate the decorative tip outlet, and instead provided a downward-angled outlet pipe. This pipe reflects exhaust noise downward in an attempt to further dissipate the sound.

Power Output
Performance gains are comparable with our REV 8 Street Exhaust:

Stock production engine – with muffler removed +5 HP
Stock production engine – with RB street or race exhaust + 3.5 HP approx.

Sound Quality
While louder than the stock system, particularly under full throttle, this exhaust system can be used for those looking for a very aggressive exhaust tone for their daily-driven RX-8. A modest driving technique will produce a moderate and tolerable exhaust tone, but jump on the throttle and this exhaust really comes to life. Full throttle does not produce a buzzy or harsh, but a more exotic sound like that of a tuned V-6 engine. During a long-distance trip to the race track during prototype testing for this system, our independent test driver commented that highway cruising was very tolerable, without any droning sounds or harmonics.

The heart of each intake system is a performance-proven 4-barrel Holley carburetor. Depending on the requirements of each specific application, the carburetor is disassembled by Racing Beat’s carburetor technicians then reworked, retuned, and reconfigured specifically for use with a designated rotary engine application. This process is not a simple “re-jetting” project, but a complex series of steps requiring machining, drilling and reconfiguring of the main and metering bodies, adjustment of the float bowls, and complete replacement of all jets. Each application has been fully developed and tested on our in-house dyno facility to ensure maximum performance.

Each comprehensive package includes a Racing Beat cast-aluminum high-rise intake manifold with a vacuum source for power brakes, a Racing Beat-modified Holley carburetor (465 CFM), foam air cleaner and canister assembly, throttle and metering oil pump linkages, and appropriate gaskets. All emissions control fittings are eliminated. This carburetor includes a vacuum-operated choke.

Performance
When installed on a 1976-78 RX-3 or a 1979-85 RX-7 12A engine, this kit increases engine output by approximately 20 HP with the stock exhaust system. However, for increased performance gains we strongly recommend the installation of an exhaust header/presilencer/Power Pulse Muffler combo (10+ HP) or an open exhaust (15+ HP) – resulting in total performance gains of between 30-35 HP depending on your specific intake/exhaust configuration..

Racing Beat Air Cleaner Assembly for 71-85 Rotary Engines inc RX-7 FB

Racing Beat’s dyno-proven Power Pulse Air Filter Assembly, for all 1971-85 Stock Carburettor Bodies, is designed specifically for performance. While the assembly uses the same Racing Beat foam air filter element that fits the stock canister, the design of the Power Pulse canister both improves air flow into the carburettor and limits the introduction of dirt particles into the filter element.

The spun aluminium canister pieces are powder-coated white for added durability. There is no provision for emission control valve hose/air pump hose connections on this assembly; however, there is a position available to connect a crankcase breather tube if needed.

The Racing Beat-designed Foam Air Filter Element for all 1971-85 Rotaries consists of a polyurethane foam over a metal screen form that interchanges exactly with the stock element. The foam element can be re-used by periodically cleaning in solvent and re-oiling.

While the element offers no significant increase in air flow when compared to a clean, stock paper element, as the paper element collects dirt its air flow capacity decreases dramatically while the foam element is nearly unaffected.

Racing Beat 12a to 13b Conversion Engine Mount for RX-7 FB

Racing Beat’s extremely popular Front Engine Mount allows any 1974-85 13B engine to be installed into any 1979-85 12A RX-7 chassis.

Racing Beat Full Exhaust System for Standard to Street Ported 79-85 RX-7 FB 12a Engines

Our Racing Beat-designed, “Long Primary” Street Port Complete RX-7 Exhaust System is designed for any 1979-85 RX-7 with a 12A street-ported engine. Designed specifically to optimize the performance benefit of a ported rotary engine, this RX-7 exhaust system will provide the maximum power output possible from an aftermarket RX-7 exhaust system. While louder than the stock system, the dual resonated centre section offers maximum exhaust gas flow and scavenging while reducing sound output to a modest level.

Offered as a packaged set, this kit consists of a Road Race Header, the Street Port Centre Section, and a high flow Power Pulse Main muffler.

The Long Primary system typically adds 5% or more horsepower over a standard Short Primary system on a street ported engine, especially at higher RPMs. This system can also be used on non-ported engines with good results. It is strictly bolt-on, with no welding required. These complete “bolt-on” systems come complete with all required mounting hardware and gaskets. Since this is intended for racing applications, there is no provision for an oxygen sensor on this system.

Racing Beat Complete Exhaust System for RX-7 FB with 12a Engine

Racing Beat offers a complete RX-7 high-performance exhaust system for the 1979-85 12A RX-7 (w/manual transmission) which includes our Header/Collector, a Power-Pulse Presilencer, and our legendary Power Pulse main muffler.

These components attach to all stock mounting points, and include all necessary gaskets and hangers. The only component not included is the factory connecting pipe that mounts just ahead of the main muffler. There is no horsepower to be gained by replacing this pipe with a larger diameter assembly. If your factory connecting pipe needs replacing, we suggest you contact your local Mazda dealer or muffler shop.

These exhaust systems offer excellent horsepower gains when you require a muffled exhaust system for your stock-ported engine or your standard RX-7 FB.

The actual horsepower increase depends on which year/model stock RX-7 exhaust system you are comparing to, but a 22% increase at 7000 rpm is typical. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Power-Pulse Presilencer and the Power Pulse Main muffler, the exhaust noise is only slightly higher than stock, with a very low, pleasant character.

Racing Beat has been manufacturing replacement silencer canisters for rotary powered vehicles for over 25 years. This Power Pulse Main Silencer assembly interchanges exactly with the stock RX-7 muffler on the 1981-82 chassis years. This Street Port Exhaust System Center Section for the 1979-85 RX-7 12A & 13B (except GSL-SE 6-Port) is the same component that comes with Racing Beat’s Complete Street Port Exhaust system.

Racing Beat Mini Pre-Silencer for 79-80 RX-7 FB

The Racing Beat Mini Power Pulse Presilencer is designed specifically to replace the Heat Exchanger on 1979-1980 RX-7s to either provide a quieter exhaust with a more pleasant character or because the original Heat Exchanger has failed.

This presilencer is 10.625 inches long and 4-inches in outside diameter. The inside diameter, 2 inches, is a straight-through perforated-core design. The end caps are .375-inch thick and fitted with 12mm studs.

The inlet end mates to the Heat Exchanger flange at the rear of our header, while the outlet end mates to a catalytic converter flange. Inside, the perforated core is made of stainless steel and is packed with stainless steel wool.

This small presilencer is also ideal for use in the design of a custom exhaust system when space concerns does allow the placement of a longer presilencer. Multiple units can be installed in sequence as need to meet your sound level needs.

Racing Beat Dual Resonated 3″ Decat Pipe for RX-8

By now its well known that a non-resonated catalytic converter pipe on the RX-8 can produce a overwhelmingly loud exhaust and cause “drone” in the cabin at motorway speeds, but if you require a modest, quieter exhaust tone, then the Racing Beat dual resonated pipe is your answer. Designed to provide the ultimate combination of performance AND sound, this pipe is sure to be a hit with RX-8 owners.

Racing Beat offers a full 304-stainless steel catalytic converter replacement pipe with dual resonators for RX-8 racing applications. Fitted with two (2) specially designed resonator units specifically for the RX-8 chassis. Both our resonated and non-resonated pipe versions are a direct bolt-on replacement for the stock catalytic converter section. Our replacement pipes utilize a genuine OEM rear mounting flange for a secure fit to the stock (or an aftermarket) exhaust system. Each replacement pipe is equipped with a sensor fitting for the oxygen sensor.

(Note: With some cars fitting this part may cause the “check engine” light to be illuminated, but performance and all other engine systems will not be affected. Essex Rotary offer out Stage 1 ECU Flash that can disable this CEL)

Important: Whilst this is a perfectly safe modification to normal aspirated RX-8′s, If your engine has a Turbocharger or a Supercharger fitted, fitting this de-cat pipe will make the exhaust gasses escape more freely and could increase the boost level causeing the engine to detonate with out the ECU being remapped.

Racing Beat Lowering Springs (-25mm) for RX-8 inc R3

Racing Beat designed coil springs are suitable for street or racing applications. Designed to offer a modest reduction in ride height, these linear rate springs interchange exactly with the stock springs.

These RX-8 springs will provide a front and rear drop of approximately 25mm (1/2-inch) drop both front and rear. A modest spring rate increase of approximately 20% will provide a performance improvement without sacrificing ride quality.

Jim Mederer, Racing Beat’s co-founder and chief engineer, shares his thoughts on designing Racing Beat’s suspension springs:

“Springs are very much a matter of opinion, I adjust ride height and spring rate based more than any other thing, my taste. We won’t excessively lower a car to obtain a “look”. First, the car will hit the bump rubbers far too often and that makes the car unpredictable in its handling, also it makes it harsh and it is very hard on suspension components causing them to potentially fail. We therefore make relatively small changes in ride height, usually less than 1″, depending on the application. We adjust that based in part on what we perceive the best way of adjusting for good handling.

Our primary goal in lowering the car is handling, and from our point a view, improved appearance is a side benefit. We don’t lower the car for appearance, and then take what comes in handling. We are very cautious to not excessively lower the car such that it will cause perceived problems either in safety or unreasonable changes in ride comfort.”

Racing Beat offers a full 304-stainless steel race pipe for RX-8 (for racing applications only).

Weighing aprox 4.5Kg. This mandrel-bent 3″ OD racing pipe is a direct bolt-on replacement for the stock catalytic converter section. This pipe utilizes a genuine OEM rear mounting flange for a secure fit to the stock (or an aftermarket) exhaust system.(many other decats require new shorter joint springs or modification to the existing springs)

    Racing Beat Stainless Tubular Exhaust Manifold for RX-8

    Fits 192ps, 231ps, R3 and JDM Imports

    The Racing Beat RX-8 manifold is constructed using 100% stainless steel for superior quality, performance and appearance. Exclusive cast stainless-steel mounting flange has been designed to allow the smooth transition of the exhaust gas flow from the engine to the primary tubing. Incorporated into the flange design are critical emission control air passages that were included on the OEM flange design.

    These small passages allow air to be pumped into the exhaust ports to aid in more efficient catalytic converter function.

    The Racing Beat manifold does not remove any catalytic converters, and is equipped with an oxygen sensor fitting and retains all emissions control functionality.

    The Racing Beat Manifold utilizes 1.75” OD, 14 gauge (.083″), mandrel-bent, 304 stainless steel tubing and features an exclusive Racing Beat engine-to-header flange. All required mounting hardware, an outlet gasket, and instructions are included.
