Adaptronic Modular ECU eMod013 for S1 RX-8 (03-08)

This product is one of Adaptonic’s plug-in ECU and is a direct standalone plug and play ECU for the Series 1 Mazda RX8.

Our main objective in creating the Adaptronic Modular ECU line is to work towards Adaptronic’s mission which is to give people control. In doing this, we came up with a system which would give people greater flexibility and at the same time, overcome the limitations of our main product line, the Select ECU.

GENERAL FEATURES

  • Modular system, so that people can buy hardware upgrades later as their needs develop (eg additional inputs, outputs, or specific functions, eg drive by wire or built-in lambda)
  • Built-in Oscilloscope; to aid in external hardware & wiring faults etc

  • Maximum output of 22 (8 ignition, 8 injector, 4 auxiliary, tacho and fuel pump)
  • Full Sequential Fuel & Ignition Control- Direct fire capable( 4 individual coils on a 2 rotor, up to 8 total-will run a 20B, 4 Rotor, 4/6/8 cylinder properly), and Individual Rotor/Cylinder Injector Trim( individual control up to 8 injectors)
  • 3 axis accelerometer (G sensor) and rate gyro
  • OMP, OEM DBW Throttle Body & Stock Fan Control
  • Traction & Launch Control configuration( Traction control requires traction control module upgrade at additional cost)
  • Fast USB communication, requiring no drivers
  • Headphone port for listening to the knock sensor while tuning
  • 32MB of onboard logging to flash
  • Tested to MIL-STD-202G, a military vibration standard, which varies the frequency and peaks at 7.5g of oscillating acceleration

Please take note that the first version of the ECU will NOT support the following:

  • Front O2 sensor control
  • Cruise control
  • Traction control (DSC)

Cruise and traction control will later be supported through a firmware update on the first version units. But the front O2 sensor will only be supported on the later versions of the ECU (requires additional circuitry). Because of this, we will be supplying a free wideband lambda sensor kit, for people who will be purchasing the first version design.

Evans Prep Fluid MUST be used before Evans coolant is installed in your cooling system for the first time, when converting from traditional coolant.

Evans Prep Fluid is specifically formulated to hygroscopically absorb any water-based coolant remaining in the cooling system after initial drain. Because certain parts of the cooling system might not drain out with gravity, and it would take too long to disconnect every pipe etc., installing a scavenging fluid is the most practical method of removing all the water-based coolant.

Air suspension Deluxe system improves on the Basic kit by adding several upgrades. One Air Zenith compressors are included which fill the tank twice as fast as the Basic kit. The Pre-Filter (Sock) is an item that up until now has not been available to purchase separately, not even directly from Mazda.
This aftermarket pre filter has been designed to be larger than the OEM unit while still fitting in the fuel pump assembly found in the RX-8.

The original fuel pre filter can become contaminated, and even go hard (from minerals in the fuel crystallising as the fuel evaporates over time)  in vehicles that have been left for extended periods of time with little or no fuel in them, this may contribute to reduced fuel flow at high load, when your engine really needs it.

The pre-filter also helps protect your fuel pump from harmful debris large enough to damage the internal parts of the pump.

We recommend replacing your pre filter if your replacing your fuel pump especially if your going to be installing one of the Aeromotive Stealth 340 fuel pumps or similar.

Water/methanol injection for gas engines is a proven means for effectively reducing engine inlet air temperatures and suppressing harmful detonation on forced induction and high performance naturally aspirated race engines. This allows racers to reliably increase boost and advance ignition timing—without using high-octane racing fuel—for power gains of up to 20%. AEM’s Water/Methanol Injection Systems utilize the most robust hardware combined with more advanced features than any other comparably priced water/methanol system.

The on-demand progressive controller in AEM’s Boost Dependent PN30-3300 Water/Methanol Injection kit bases injection flow on manifold pressure using an on-board MAP sensor (up to 35 PSI of boost) to ensure the proper amount of water/methanol injection at all points along an engine’s power curve.

AEM’s engineers spent extensive time developing the controller’s flow control strategy for a more linear flow output delivery. This means that the flow delivery better matches an engine’s need for water/methanol injection, which further optimizes charge air cooling and detonation control.

The new controller design features large, turn-resistant knobs and larger numbering to easily set accurate start and full activation points, with covered status LED and test buttons for added splash resistance. A plug is integrated into the controller housing for mating to the redesigned wiring harness’s positive-lock connector. The Boost Dependent controller housing has a molded-in, barbed nipple to accept a boost hose and a wiring legend on the back, integrated fuse and molded mounting tabs.

AEM’s Boost Dependent Water/Methanol Injection kit’s wiring harness is terminated with a positive-lock connector on one end and has color-coded wires to ease installation. Both the power and ground wires for the pump are included in the harness which simplifies the wiring process and eliminates any chance of the pump accidentally activating from a short in the system. An additional wire is included for adding an optional on/off solenoid to stop fluid flow when the system is inactive.

This Mishimoto fan controller is much more affordable than other kits on the market.

Take full control of your electric cooling fan with the Mishimoto Adjustable Fan Controller Kit! This kit is applicable for any 12v electric fan and includes all necessary components for installation. This kit can be purchased with a probe-style temperature sensor or with a 1/8″ NPT thread-in sensor to fit the needs of any project. The Racing Beat RX-8 Race Exhaust System V2 with 3″ bore and extended tip is a lightweight exhaust system that is intended for race applications. HKS Super Hybrid Panel Filter for RX-8

HKS Super Hybrid Filters are direct replacement panel filters designed to fit into the standard factory air box. Using a 3 layer dry filter, the super hybrid filter separates and catches dust particles within the air and optimises air flow direction through the filter.

The new 3 layer filter system catches larger dust particles with the first layer and smaller particles are filtered out by the 2nd polyurethane layer. This has allowed increased filter life over previous models. Improvements were also made to the way the layers are attached to each other allowing for improved air flow.

The frame has been strengthened so as to not distort even in high power applications. The design of the top edge of the frame has been further improved to increase air flow into the filter and by using a “separate shield frame” structure, the frame lip seals tightly against the air box without the need for a separate rubber ring improving the products environmental impact. The two part filter frame structure allows simple replacement of the filter element when it is time to replace the filter. Reusable filters which can be cleaned cannot always restore 100% of its air flow properties whereas new replacement elements can. HKS believes that this is therefore the best method to ensure maximum performance from the air filter every time it is serviced.

Pineapple Racing Heavy Duty (HD) Water Seal Kit for RX-8

This is Pineapple Racing’s exclusive Heavy Duty Water Seal kit. Pineapple Racing tested these seals for over 7 years in numerous street and track cars before offering them to our customers. They have proven to be a significant upgrade over the stock water seals. Pineapple Racing use them in all their 5-year warranty motors.
Also, these seals are re-usable if you need to reopen the motor to freshen it, as long as the mileage is not too high or the engine too overheated. In other words, if you make a mistake and blow up your engine or perhaps improperly clearance the seals or whatever, these seals can be removed, allowed to “rest” for about 30 minutes and be reused when you put the engine back together. Stock water seals must be disposed of when freshening an engine, even with just a couple heat cycles.

Pineapple Racing Solid Dowel Pins

Pineapple Racing Solid Dowel Pins provide an easy, cost effective aid to hp and “ping” loads causing plate cracking or engine damage from loss of clearance from engine flex. Our super strong proprietary material has been meticulously machined to provide what we feel are the most accurate and consistently machined solid dowel pins on the market. The O.D. is accurate to 50 millionth’s! That’s 0.00005”. We “lightly” tapped one end for use with a Dowel Pin Puller.

Replace just the lower dowel pins helps to insure your engine’s centerline remains true. It is a great update requiring no machining.

Replace both lower and upper dowel pins for the maximum improvement. Replacing the upper dowel pins requires the installation of an external oil feed line to the front main oil galley to replace the OEM galley in the OEM dowel pins. Our Oil Pedestal Adapter kit makes this a simple job that can be done with simple hand tools and an electric drill.

High horsepower and the shock loads from “ping” put a tremendous load against the rotor housings. The load deflects the rotor housings outwards, pushing the dowel pin with them. The dowel pins are retained by their fit into the cast iron plates. If the loads are too high, the upper dowel pin can cause the plate(s) to crack. Additionally, since the upper dowel pins are also used as an oil galley, a massive oil leak is also possible. The OEM 20B is especially prone to this type of damage,  and with the price of the “thick” center plate near $1800us, preventing this type of damage pays for itself.

Endless ME20 “Track” Brake Pads for RX-8

ME20 is a semi-metallic compound, developed for racing and rally. It is a step up initial bite and is more “straight-forward” with regards to brake power. Originally developed for BTCC Super Touring cars where you have high traction afforded by suspension setup and tire compounds. The pedal feel and brake power is excellent and equal across the speed range with an easy modulation in all instances. With ME20 it is possible to perform very hard and late braking into corners. As with the friction and bite the ME20 is a step up in heat resistance compared to the ME22 and it has shown a very good stable brake performance at high disc temperatures over 650 °C. The wear characteristics of both pads and discs are low, and for cold weather and wet conditions it retains the same excellent resistance to water fade.

Mazda Factory Race (MFR) Rear Stationary Gear Bearing

Genuine Mazda Factory Race Part

Use in place of stock rear bearing. 3-window type. Recommended for any engine used at 8000 rpm and above. Increases oil flow to the inside of eccentric shaft and to rotors.

If you are installing this bearing in to a Manual RX-7 FD3s of 231ps RX-8 Rear Stationary Gear we would recommend getting an indexing groove cut in to the rear face of the stationary gear in order to locate and hold this bearing correctly. The location should be in the same place as that found on Auto Rear Stationary gears and those earlier then the FD3s. Stationary gears from the Automatic FD3s and RX-8 including the 192ps manual RX-8 should have this indexing groove in them already.

These bearings are special order only and can take up to 6 weeks for delivery. They are sometimes out of stock at Mazda HQ Japan so can take longer. we would recommend ordering your competition bearings early to avoid disappointment.

Mazda Factory Race (MFR) Rotor Bearing (Sold Individually)

The Mazda Factory Race (MFR) rotor bearings for all 12A & 13B engines are the best bearings available of engine operation near or above 8500 RPM. The rotor bearings are manufactured with a deep groove for additional oil storage and offer an additional .0005″ (approximate) clearance. These bearings can be used in 1973 and earlier engines by grinding off the indexing tab.

Competition bearings have 0.01 inch deeper oil groove and provide 0.0005 inch more clearance than stock bearings. Thinner overlay material improves bearing service life.

These bearings are special order only and can take up to 6 weeks for delivery. They are sometimes out of stock at Mazda HQ Japan so can take longer. we would recommend ordering your competition bearings early to avoid disappointment.

Genuine Mazda Rear Oxygen Sensor for RX-8

This is a genuine Mazda rear O2 sensor (found installed in your catalytic converter) for your RX-8 in many cases installing a pattern sensor will mean that cat monitoring (whitch is primarily what your rear O2 sensor is for) will not work correctly, we have found in the past that customer who have ionstalled a cheaper pattern or universal rear O2 sensor have had a failed cat however the ECU has failed to detect this.

This is the sensor that is installed in the catalytic converter.

Stationary Gear Bearings FB, FC & 192 + Auto RX-8

Sold as a Pair these stationary gear bearings where used in many of the early Rotary engines

These include

  • RX-7 FB/SA22c
  • RX-7 FC EGI
  • RX-7 FC Turbo II
  • RX-8 192ps (4 Port Manual)
  • Rx-8 Auto (4 Port Automatic)

These bearings have fewer “windows” but are the correct bearings for most 12a and early 13b engines (with the exception of the 13b REW found in the RX-7 FD3s)

If your looking at these for your 4 port RX-8 engine then a popular upgrade is the high power multi window bearings though there is no locator notch found on the high power bearings here at Essex Rotary we install them in conjunction with a high quality “bearing lock” compound to help keep them in place.

Stationary Gear Bearing Set for 6 Port RX-8 + FD3s

This is a set of Genuine Mazda “windowed” stationary gear bearings commonly found in the high power 6 port (231ps/250ps) RX-8 and RX-7 FD3s
These are a multi window design to promote superior oil flow when co pared to the earlier versions found in the FC3s and Automatic RX-8

This set is the most common size for use when rebuilding your engine or simply replacing your old worn bearings when you remove your engine.

The part number for this bearing ends in “E04″ giving the greatest clearance other then Mazda Factory Race Bearings.

Other sizes can be special ordered on request.
